DJ Ahmet

Ahmet, 15, grows up in the mountains of Macedonia, where he tends his father's sheep while looking after his little brother. But what he really dreams of is music. Caught between the expectations of those around him and his desire to see the world, will Ahmet ever be able to follow his own path? Ahmet, a teenage shepherd in Macedonia, dreams of music and must choose between his family's expectations and his desire to follow his own path.

Georgi M. Unkovski

Georgi M. Unkovski is a Macedonian writer and director born in New York in 1988. He spent his childhood and youth in Macedonia before returning to the United States to study at the Rochester Institute of Technology – Eastman’s School of Photography, where he earned a degree in Fine Arts. During that period, he published the photography book Be Right Back, focused on gaming culture and the young people who frequented internet cafés in Skopje. His passion for cinema then lead him to Prague, where he completed a master's degree at the prestigious FAMU, Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts, with a thesis exploring the intersections between video games and cinema. Back in Skopje, he worked as a director for one of the country's leading advertising agencies, FUTURA 2/2, as well as for Cinema Futura, a local production company dedicated to filmmaking. A Sundance Institute alumnus, Georgi M. Unkovski has directed more than ten short films, notably Sticker (2020), which won over 50 international awards and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. DJ Ahmet is his first feature film, which is also being presented at Sundance in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition.
