The Writing Box

A manipulative schoolgirl living in 1930’s England convinces her parents to allow her to come to India. Upon her arrival to a secluded villa with only the company of a few other people notably, a young cook and Raissa, a young woman charged with her care, her stay becomes tumultuous as her lies bring chaos to her new reality

“On the surface, it’s an entertaining drama about a troubled, imaginative, potentially delusional little girl, who spends too much time at the movies and dreams of swapping England for India. Underneath that, it’s also a sly deconstruction of Victorian children’s literature and its colonial underpinnings; an uncanny, atmospheric post-post-colonial fantasy that reveals the shadow side of human nature and reflects on power, privilege and the need for art.” Tijana Mamula
