Leap Year

Social worker Irina often visits Victor, a recent widower suffering from heart attacks, to help with household chores and farm work. But her presence triggers Sasha, Victor’s son, who suspects that she has other motives.

“Emotional impotence and inability to adequately display love and compassion for loved ones formed the basis for the creation of the film, but the director’s task was not to show once again the sad situation in the Russian reality, but to put the question differently. The film is structured in a way that presents characters not only in their obvious social models and thus invites us to a reflection: is there a place in this story for censure of the actions of some and sympathy for others? Do we have the right to judge the life of a particular family? And finally, will this life grind us, like the inevitable wheel of Samsara?”
