Blue Moon

Blue Moon tells the story of Irina, a young woman trying to escape her dysfunctional family and who dreams of continuing her studies in the capital. Weighed down by the ambient violence, her efforts are doomed to failure.

“It comes mostly from my childhood. I think I was the only girl from the village who went on to university. Some of the girls could not even go to high school. Fifteen years later, I went back to my village, thinking that things might have changed. I was surprised to see that things were the same in 2021. And that was of course important for me.  (…) When I listened to the village girls talk, nothing seemed connected. We tried to reproduce what happens inside them with our camera work, using field depth and blurring.” Alina Grigore, cineuropa.org

“I came to believe that film needs a collective approach, a deep understanding of the creative processes involved. So, for Blue Moon l encouraged the DOP, for example, to understand the workings and thinking mechanisms of an actor, and vice versa. Step by step, we exchanged techniques and ideas so that we can “dance together to the same music” and touch on the subtlety of collective emotions. The film does not provide solutions to the vicious circle of aggression. I think the film is more of a discourse of revenge, of decompression. The film does not at all touch on the possibility of escaping the status of the victim, but instead seeks to provoke an experience of her emotions.” Alina Grigore
