Days and Nights of Demetra K. / Μέρες και νύχτες της Δήμητρας Κ.

Dimitra is a sex worker who likes her job. She owns one of the oldest bordellos in Athens. The film follows Dimitra for twelve years. It is also a chronicle of life in Athens, as affected by the recent financial crisis. On contact with the protagonist, we are confronted with our stereotypes about sex and personal choice. This is a film about time and love.
“I wanted to make a movie about night life in Athens. I had only a vague idea of what I wanted to do. A friend (…) suggested: “You should meet Dimitra”. And when I met her, I fell under her charm. And so I abandoned the larger theme of night life in Athens. I just wanted to meet with Dimitra and get to know her better.” Eva Stefani, variety.com
“While retaining the lady herself front-and-center throughout, Days and Nights of Demetra K. carefully avoids being fixated or dominated upon one particular individual, and instead provides snapshots of her changing environment, contexts and times in unobtrusive but telling fashion. The film is also a casually sketched evocation of Athens, from the grubby, graffiti-strewn streets to the Acropolis; the ancient, crumbling, patched-up city presented via the same warts-and-all but essentially sympathetic light afforded to the picture’s extravagant, unapologetic protagonist.” screendaily.com
