Our commitments
The commitments of the festival Europe by Europe
🌿A lively and committed European festival
Europe by Europe was born from an act of faith in the power of European cinema. It’s not just about programming films. We believe that cinema is one of the most powerful languages for expressing our continent’s multiple identities, making its unique voices heard, telling its untold stories, and reflecting together on what connects us.
Each film programmed carries within it an echo of a country, a people, a history, a language, a memory, but also a universal openness that crosses borders. In this sense, cinema is for us a living form of concrete, artistic and political Europe.
Here, commitment is everywhere: in the programming, in the meetings, in the locations we choose, in our production methods, and in the values we uphold. The festival is designed as a space for dialogue, otherness, transmission, and utopia, faithful to the European motto: “United in diversity“.
🎬 What we stand for
Each film we select is a fragment of Europe. It speaks a language, it inhabits a landscape, it carries a memory, an anger, a dream. This cinema is not neutral: It questions. It shakes up. It brings us together.
Our mission is to promote the circulation of independent European films, particularly those that have not yet found an audience beyond their country of origin. Too many unique works, however rich and powerful, remain invisible due to linguistic, cultural, economic, or political barriers. The festival is committed to:
- Highlighting little-seen films,
- Encourage the discovery of new talents,
- Create bridges between works, audiences, critics and institutions,
- Support independent films in their distribution, even after the festival.
🌍 A festival that thinks about Europe through cinema
Europe is not just a geographical space; it is also an intellectual, artistic, and political project. It is a Europe in motion.
The festival is an opportunity to question Europe through images. And our thematic sections (THEMA, Wildlife, Connections, Experimental Salon), in addition to our official competitions, highlight major contemporary issues: ecology and disasters, gender and representations, minorities and invisibilities, borders and migrations, colonial memories, justice, languages, power, etc.
These reflections continue in our meetings, conferences, debates, masterclasses, often in partnership with academics, journalists, thinkers, European political figures or cultural activists.
🎓 Transmit, now
Cinema can change a person’s perspective, especially when viewed at a young age. This is why image education is at the heart of our project:
- Audiovisual workshops in youth centers, cultural centers and schools
- Student Jury (Prix LUPETO)
- Young Professionals Jury (Prix LUNA)
- Partnerships with 6 Parisian universities
- Cross-disciplinary projects with European film schools
- Online resources to extend screenings (CinéLangues from 2026)
- Culture Pass for 15-18 year olds
To transmit does not mean to simplify. It means: to trust the intelligence of the gaze.
⚖️ Inclusion, parity and accessibility
Europe by Europe is a festival open to everyone, in its works as well as in its practices.
We are committed to:
- 🧑🦽 Ensure accessibility for people with reduced mobility in all partner locations
- 🎧 Integrate audio description and subtitles
- ⚖️ Promote equitable gender representation in selection and juries (parity objective achieved since 2022)
- 🌐 Increase the number of films from minority or non-dominant languages
- 🏳️🌈 Welcome works on issues of gender, identity, sexuality, disability or exile
- 🤝 Prioritize recruiting interns and volunteers from diverse backgrounds (neighborhoods, precariousness, partner universities)
🌱 An eco-responsible commitment
Like any cultural event, we have an environmental impact. Our duty is to reduce, measure, and correct it. We strive to adhere as closely as possible to the Green Charter for Film Festivals, and we have received the ECOFEST label.
We are implementing:
- 🍽️ Local, organic and plastic-free catering
- 🚲 Preferred soft transport (public transport, metro, collective VTC)
- 🧾 Reduction of printed materials, use of recycled paper
- 🗑️ Sorting and recycling in all festival locations
- 🎟️ Incentive for online ticketing
We know we don’t have all the answers, but we move forward with humility, transparency and a desire for progress.
🤝 One team, one network, one movement
Engagement isn’t just a speech. It’s a daily practice, carried out by dozens of people: coordinators, programmers, translators, graphic designers, managers, volunteers, partners.
We are an independent, associative project, led by people who believe that Europe is not an abstraction, but something that we create together, day after day, image after image.
And if you want to be part of it, just write to us.
